Jazz Studies Class Routine:
5-10 minutes: Technicals/Warmup.
I usually warm up by playing scales, then I go over technical exercises. I also loosen up by playing a little improv on a chord progression. (II V I, I IV V, etc.)
20-30 min: Jazz theory class from Udemy, I usually do 1-2 lessons, take notes, and then try to find songs that fit with the lesson and improv. For example I recently worked on the diminished and
Whole tone scales.
20-30 min: I will then work on a song from the standards list, and will make my own recording on Logic pro. I start by finding a drum loop, then a bass line, comping, melody, and finally
improvisation.
5-10 min: Free play/ recording. I have recently been working on a song that uses a I IV VII III chord progression. I have been trying to expand on harmony and soloing through this.
